I don't like Eclipse at all, it's bloated/slow and forces me to use Java style workflows which, again, I dislike.
Xored was a cool idea, but in the end it turned out to be a very buggy and slow IDE. For now I just love Zend Studio (even tough I hate the lack of antialised fonts). In the end a light version of Eclipse configured for PHP would be fine. For the other side it's pretty obvious that Zend and IBM is trying hard to get a slice from the enterprise area where untill now PHP looked like a stupid kid, an area which is defined by money, not by the sake of the community so we can expect more commercial products and perhaps some more bad moves from Zend (like the the neverending question: "Why PHP doesn't have an integrated accelerator?", and the simple answer: "Money") Let's hope that PHP will gain some enterprise importance but won't lose the small/medium sized businesses.
Well crap now they are coming out with there own php framework right after I was developing one so simple that makes it easier than hell to do just about anything... But there goes Zend our big PHP giant. lol.
This might be good and might be bad. What I forsee is now since they are coming out with this, it will end up being the standard and we will all be forced to rewrite our code so that it will work on there "framework". I just do not think that this is a great thing for the community, it starts to take away from the community choice and going to vendor specifics. All enterprises will start expecting the software to run on zend's framework instead of what is built from the ground up. |
